Goodness when did I get so many of them, and why on earth have I not used them yet?

Well I'll tell you why....there's just too many of them! I almost feel like I should be using them all at once...you know...getting out my soap recipe book and going to town on several dozen loaves of cold process soap...or getting out the soy wax and making a whole load of candles! But instead they beckon to me...giving me ideas for the upcoming fall and winter season, maybe even throw in some summertime faves during the winter so the winter dolldrums don't set in!

Tomorrow I'm taking pictures of my craft room and my fragrance oil cabinet...you'll giggle...I know you will!Deehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11170918340723692096noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9219588189803025364.post-29977795629890320452008-04-16T21:04:00.000-07:002008-12-08T14:36:22.867-08:00Personal

Its really hard to sit down and write a blog entry consistently. Oh sure, its really easy if all your looking to do is fill a daily spot with some randomness, but to really sit down, and write out a well thought out, meaningful blog entry can be a challenge....

So this is what I plan to do with this poor abused blog of mine. On the off times when I'm not shamelessly promoting myself on here, I would like to write entries that would really mean something to someone, I would like to hear what you would like to see on this blog. Would you like to hear about other people's endeavors? Would you like to hear about my everyday routine? Maybe just see some pictures...and if so, of what?(sorry, no porn!) Would you like me to rant and rave about my business?....Perhaps rant and rave in general?(I can do that too...I'm a seasoned professional)!

Reply to this post with your ideas...I'd really like to hear them. I believe that a beautiful blog should not only keep its readers interested, but that it should also give its readers a voice as to what they would like to see as well. For those of you who are kind enough to check into my blog to see if anything is new, you will notice my header is different. That's right, I am no longer http://www.deeshomegoods.etsy.com/, as of March 19, 2008 my official business name on and off etsy is now Barefoot Bath and Body!

Why the change? Well I'll tell you why! First, business was great, and I want to thank everyone who tried me out over the year 2007....but....It's hard to sell your products when you don't like your business name....and business could have been better to tell the truth...so, I spent months during this new year coming up with a name I would love and be proud of, and which would truly represent me and my products! I hope you like the new name!

Now, as for what else have I been doing? Well.....developing new bath and body products for one thing! I don't just make products and then put them out on the marketplace...NO WAY! I like to come up with a recipe, test it out, and test it out on my family and friends(but never my animal friends, mind you!)...this way, I can develop the best product for my loyal and new customers! So, for the past few months I have been perfecting my lip balm recipe, and, I now have hand and body lotion, and I hope to have a foaming sugar scrub up for sale very soon as well!

Okay viewers! I will be back often, I promise! In the meantime, browse around and enjoy the wonderful pictures I will be posting in the next few days!

Oh! And P.S.....Thank you heaps and bunches to ThompsonDesigns.etsy.com for my new banner, which I also use in my shop, my shop avatar, and my new business card designs! If you want a quality banner and business card design that will get rave reviews by everyone, look to this shop....they are amazing!Deehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11170918340723692096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9219588189803025364.post-11819363469149347702008-01-26T21:19:00.000-08:002008-01-26T21:21:52.408-08:00Keeping Up!Well you know the saying...the best laid plans.....

I've been trying my best to keep up with this blog...and then bamo! So congrats to budanArt, and to all the fine etsy artisans in this beautiful treasury!Deehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11170918340723692096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9219588189803025364.post-55898000376573034812008-01-06T08:01:00.000-08:002008-12-08T14:36:23.740-08:00About Me!!!

Sometime soon I hope to have an etsy member besides myself featured on this blog....having written that, I also hope to have more time to post in this blog....as nothing is more fun than writing about my passion---SOAP!!!

Some people have asked me why I started making my own soap. The answer sets us back about a year from this January, when I was so fed up with winter dry and cracked skin. It was then that I started researching the differences in store bought soap, and why handmade, and handpoured soap was sweeping the nation. I went out and bought a few bars of handmade soap...melt and pour and cold process...and I gotta tell ya, not only was I hooked, but I wanted to make it myself. So the research continued. I knew I wanted to start out with melt and pour, but I also quickly realized not all melt and pour bases are created the same. So I educated myself..used the different ones out there to see which would indeed be best, did my homework, and the purest, best soap bases I use and sell today are the ones that came out the winners. I made so many bars of soap my husband finally asked me what I was going to do with it all.

Etsy came into my life around mid May 2007---several months after I started making soap. I started my shop with all melt and pour soaps....as I was still researching and developing my own recipes for cold process soap. I started selling cold process soap in November 2007 after several test loaves that didn't work, and several that worked quite fabulously.

Its almost been a year since I started making soap, and I'm about 4 months away from my 1 year etsy anniversary...and had I had to do it all over again, I still would not do it any other way. Is my shop wildly successful and do I sell to salons and sit in the etsy forums and brag at nauseum about my success? No, not at all. I sell what I use and I enjoy what I do....I would not have it any other way!
Deehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11170918340723692096noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9219588189803025364.post-43705263694562025732007-12-12T19:44:00.000-08:002008-12-08T14:36:23.878-08:00Cold Process Soap vs. Melt n Pour

There's a lot of talk about which is best...cold process, or melt and pour. Without a doubt Cold Process and Hot Process soaps will always be the champions of natural soaping...however, don't discount Melt n Pour!

I make both forms of soap....I love making both forms, and while I agree that making cold process ensures that I know exactly what is in my soap, I also know what is in my melt and pour soap as well...it helps to use reputable suppliers who sell the good stuff! Don't get me wrong, nasty melt and pour does exist out there...you just have to watch for it! A good quality melt and pour actually has some percentage of goat's milk, cocoa butter, hemp, and quality oils...but does not contain sulfides, or other hard to pronounce harsh ingredients. However, you can make your melt and pour soap irritating if you use the wrong colorants and fragrances. Look for soap that contains natural colorants and mild fragrance oils, or essential oils.

In my case, I offer both melt and pour and cold process because I opened my shop with melt and pour, and it is ready within a day of making it. Cold process soap takes weeks to cure... waiting a few weeks to a couple of months results in a beautiful hard bar that lasts for a long time! I love both forms...my skin loves both forms.....if you are new to either one, you should really try both and see which you like the best!

I love questions about soap....if you have questions, feel free to email me!
Deehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11170918340723692096noreply@blogger.com157tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9219588189803025364.post-57096159853140180242007-11-13T19:54:00.000-08:002007-11-13T19:59:23.349-08:00Uh, YeahSo this morning I got out of bed only to realize there are only so many shopping days left before the day after Thanksgiving...yipes! We are only almost a week away...so I've been feverishly trying to get my stock up so I can handle everything at once....and just when I think I've got it.....the attack of the supplier who can't handle rush orders unless you pay a rush order fee hits!

Don't get me wrong....I love my suppliers. Great prices...natural, quality products that enable me to bring a quality natural product to my shop---but come on...pay a fee to get my order looked at first? Does this really ensure I will have my items packaged up today and out the door by tomorrow?

Its kinda like paying priority when you know its only going to arrive as quickly as first class....what's the point?

Anyway...happy days are ahead...and I think I'm ready!Deehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11170918340723692096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9219588189803025364.post-16901201949199465212007-10-24T17:55:00.000-07:002008-12-08T14:36:24.044-08:00Fall Is Definately Here!

I'm partial to this time of year....Halloween, the trees changing colors...being able to be outside without sweating---good times!
